In Praise of Veterans

Today I honor the soldiers in my life.

Some were wounded, came home, lived out their lives with pain an everyday reminder of where they'd been and what they'd done. They rest in gardens of stone. Grant them peace, Lord.

Some made the ultimate sacrifice. Hold them gently, Lord.

Some fight even now, their days focused not on the threat of an unheard fatal bullet, but on the value of each and every single human life. Guard and guide them, Lord.

Some are back home, living quiet lives unheralded by the world, but secure in the knowledge that we few, we happy few, are indeed a band of brothers and sisters. Heal our hearts, Lord.
